Marlin Perkins talks to the canoe driver
Back in the 90s two of my best friends had a band called the Gentle Kite Makers. They rocked.
They wrote a song about Marlin Perkins of “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” fame. You probably remember him… he’s the guy we learned everything about the animal kingdom from.

Marlin went on a lot of crazy adventures in the wild kingdom, like safaris to Africa and California’s Central Valley.
In 1960 he packed off for the Himalayas too look for the abominable snowman.

You may remember when he finally found him Abominable kept confusing him with some guy named George.

But his craziest adventure was learning to talk to the canoe driver. That was such a harrowing adventure for him that I cannot bear to repeat the story. You’ll have to read about it here to find out what happened.
And for your listening pleasure, here are the Gentle Kite Makers singing “Marlin Perkins Talks to the Canoe Driver.” I sure miss those guys.
