1984 was awesome. That was the year the drummer for Black Flag almost kicked my ass.

I saw many great punk rock shows in my time, but in 1984 I caught Black Flag, the Meat Puppets, and Nig Heist at the Norwegian Ballroom in Seattle.

Nig Heist wore women’s underwear and wigs onstage. They played badass heavy metal songs.

The Meat Puppets had just put out Meat Puppets II, an awesome album.

Black Flag kicked ass. Everybody was spitting on Henry Rollins and he kicked somebody in the face.

Black Flag was one of my favorite bands.

My friends and I were pretty wasted. We were hanging out by the girl’s bathroom during part of the show, teasing people and trying to pick up chicks.

This guy came by and we said something obnoxious to him and he threatened to kick our asses. He said, “Do you know who I am? I’m the drummer for Black Flag!”

That was so cool.

Anyway, I still love Black Flag. Over 20 years later, I still want to get the Black Flag bars tattooed on my arm but my wife won’t let me.
